The Mill Lane project was a new build plot, offering a relatively blank canvas. The client’s wish list was small and concise; – An area for ‘al fresco’ dining, whilst enjoying the last of the evening sun. In addition they requested an area for sunbathing – plus an area for shade in the guise of a ‘beach hut’ styled building.
Using a selective materials palate kept the colourway to a minimum, using Kandal grey sandstone to extend the existing patio, Western Red Cedar for cladding the building plus bespoke fencing panels and blackened timber for contrasting effects.
An open fronted “Loggia” gave the client respite from the sun, whilst enabling generous views of all areas of the garden. The interior of the garden building featured hardwood ply panelling, bespoke modular seating, hardwood decked flooring, lighting and directional ceramic heater allowing year round usability.
Planting was chosen for its biodiversity and evergreen structure. Premium Pleached Hornbeams provided an attractive screening hedge from the built up surrounding area.
A green roof was introduced to the Loggia as another aspect of biodiversity whilst softening the impact of the structure for the neighbours. Installing a remote controlled lighting system gives the garden an added dimension during the evening.
