The client’s brief was simple and to the point – ACCESS. They needed to get to the front door and the rear gate from the car parking area and wanted easy access from both directions of the steeply sloping street. The existing mature Magnolia tree offered a convenient focal point around which everything circulated.

Using oak sleepers in a vertical orientation allowed for the creation of a sinuous curving retaining wall which paired beautifully with the muted tones of the Kandala grey sandstone.

The under planting of the Magnolia needed to be robust and shade tolerant, whilst aiming to provide visually pleasing aesthetics all year round. Moreover, the inclusion of a low level low voltage light system assists in highlighting the numerous steps and paths.
